Really useful to ponder on and is something I've wrestled with about book summary apps. I've come to be comfortable that these give me access to a lot more books than I could ever read and from these I read/listen to those that pique my interest the most but not sure that's the best strategy!
I agree Nick! Personally I use book summarization services to figure out what I want/should read next – I think the challenge with tools like NotebookLM is that they give you the false sense of comprehension, whereas it is clear from the get-go that a book summarization tool is always a very pastiche version of the underlying text… 🤷🏼
